All Systems "GO"

The baby is in position, repeat, the baby is in position ... (no sirens actually sounded - but it would be SO cool if they did!)

The sweet baby's head is so far down now, we can't even get even a "kind of" a profile ... 3-5 weeks until we meet him!!!

I'm sorting some music into new lists - one of which is for the labor bit. Beyond "Red Hooded Sweatshirt," I have come across a song that has me completely obsessed, stringing in a constant loop, and can only dare to dream that I had the nerve or some kind of confident labor humor, to add it to that playlist. Anyone? Anyone? omg - it's "Don't Touch Me" from the Space Ghost's Musical BBQue - Cartoon Network Band... :)

That would be frickin' funny - no?

Yes - I see, it's time for a rest :)

I've already lost 3 of the sweet baby's socks :( One blue, one gray, and one with a little baseball on it ...

UGH! The emotions ...

Stupid laundry - stupid folding of the laundry

Socks have been found and returned to their pairs!!! :)

FMH Hospital Tour

He asked the little volunteer at the front desk if this was a "3-hour-tour." Correction - he sang it.
The image “http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/images/cast-of-gilligans-island.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

You can see where this little trip was going - oui?

We had our hospital tour with FMH Wellness Center lady, Amy. Unfortunately, she is one of those sugary-sweet-if I just smile enough you'll be happy too... kind of people. Fortunately, she did give a very informative tour, answering everyone's questions honestly, with a good balance of what the nurses are able to accommodate, inclined to accommodate, willing to accommodate. This giant tummied librarian likes to know these kinds of parameters. It helps me judge how difficult or pleasant I can be prepared to be. I gots to know the lay of the land, so to speak :)

I feel well informed and prepared for this hospital experience - and almost ready!!! I'm still not to the point of desperately wanting the pregnancy to be over... but, I know that is coming.

Our doula visited on Sunday for a few lovely hours - and has much experience at FMH, which also helps with my feeling of being prepared. We talked more about my expectations of her, Octavio's expectations of the entire experience, and what to concentrate on over the next two weeks - when I will be at week 37! W O W :)

Octavio is now nesting and reading :

We are SO excited!!!!

Confessions, an Update and Shopping list

I have two confessions:

Confession #1 - - - On April 18th, I ate a steak. Like a whole piece of it. Octavio grilled it up for me - skirt steak Puerto Rican style. And, I did not vomit or complain (too loudly). I am pretending like meat is medicine for the growing baby, and am trying to take it like a WOman. I did get a tummy ache later - maybe it was mental ... I tried to commit to eating the red bloody meats at least once a week, through breastfeeding. This resolution did not last ... but, I did eat hamburger (b-l-e-c-h, nevah again!) the other night at a cookout...

Confession #2 - - - Sometime during the week of May 5th, I gave up wearing my regular pants with a bella band, and wore a pair of full panel maternity pants. Yes, indeed, I did.

An update:
All of the rest, food, water seems to be helping the placental/amniotic fluid issues :) Even though I haven't gained any weight in the past two weeks... another visit next week will give us more information about the sweet BabyQ :)
Giant Tummy = Tiny Baby

Shopping List:
Other than the Ikea dresser and Glider that my mother is making arrangements for (THANKS, Mom!), this is what we are shopping for this weekend ...
*KangarooKorner adjustable cotton pouch
*Sophie the Giraffe
*Baby Bjorn
*Nursing Bra Tops
*Pacifiers
*Diaper Bag - just haven't found the right one yet

Other than adjusting to not being at work so often - soon to be not at all - that's about all that's going on here - OH! WAIT... Look at one of the shelves that Octavio built for his sweet boy ...

I need a new camera, or more patience :)

ttyl *SherryQ* currently not able to stop the never ending "Red Hooded Sweatshirt" by Mr. A. Sandler from running through my mushy mind ... 'zup?

Where a Spontaneous Energetic Cow Parade is Reverently Observed ...

Hello :)
I believe that the baby is still growing - I know that for sure, I am still growing!

enter exhibit A: "the downward spiral shot"

Whilst sitting on the couch (which I am NOT supposed to do - its either prone on the left side or in a supportive chair), I happened upon this vista, and the melonishness of it all caught me in my funny bone = a photo must be taken! :)

That's my only photo to share as of right now. My camera battery died - again. I can only get about 3 pictures taken before the darned thing just tires out no matter how much I recharge it. Get a new battery, you say? Or a new camera, you say? Yes, I hear those voices too - just haven't been irritated enough to actually do anything yet - but will with baby on the way :)

Lack of camera attention caused me to miss being able to take a photo of my reverent (read - half asleep after lunch) observation of the cutest spontaneous cow parade on my ride home from work this afternoon (no worries - Octavio was driving). I added "energetic" to the description as well - because they were prancing up and down in the happiest fashion around the tip of a little curvy hill on their way to something that must have been very exciting ... an afternoon party of sorts, perhaps? Well, that's how it happened in my world - and if I could have taken a photo, I could have shared evidence... bygones ... but I couldn't resist the blog title, so now you know the rest of the story :)

I need to attend to the camera issue asap so that I can share the progress of the nursery - complete with shelves and stuff on shelves! I would also like to post some photos of the cute presies BabyQ has received from all of your generosity!

BTW - you read and hear about how the pregnancy hormones make the ladies all crazy and stuff - and now I know it is true! I recognize it, but I can't stop it! I feel like I am either smiling or sleeping all of the time... I am forgetting things and I trip over - over - over - nothing. I just trip :P Freakish, ain't it ... ? The poor dog is beside himself wondering what invisible things he is missing that I am tripping over.

ttyl - more on Wed or Th after more Dr. visits, unless by some miracle I remedy the camera issue :) *SherryQ*

Perinatal Specialist visit

Howdy All :)
I visited the perinatal specialist again this morning - and as of last week, we were encouraged with the baby's growth (still very small, but growing, except for his tummy), but we were still moved to weekly visits because of the small measurements.

This week, he had some slight growth, but unfortunately, not in the stomach at all, and my amniotic fluid is quite low even compared to last week - indicating that the placenta is quickly going to stop being able to nourish the baby at all. I have been given signs of what to look for, and they are willing to let me wait another week for a return visit (unless something creeps up) - after which I'll be monitored for these changes twice a a week until the baby arrives.

No pictures this week at all - just information :(

So we are now at the point where I am needing to work no more than 3 days/week and no more than 4 hours/day in a sitting/desk position (I'm antsy just writing this down!).

We also discovered this morning that this
Sweet Baby LOVES the acai blueberry/pomegranate juice!

I'll find some pictures to post - soooooooon :) xo *SherryQ*

More Dr visits ...

Bonjour mes Amigos y Familia :)
We went to see the Perinatal Specialist yesterday. He is adorable in his crazy Dr. geekness :) No Dr. coat for him, but rather a dark blue plaid short sleeved shirt with something in his little shirt pocket! J'adore...
results:
Placenta is fine
Fluid is fine
Baby is growing
(still small, but growing)
Baby's stomach is quite small
I have to eat 6 meals/day in addition to my Ensures

This will be an interesting study into exactly how GInormous Sherry can actually get :)

Today's visit was with our OB/GYN - she's young and giggly and fun to see :)
results:
Glucose levels are well within "normal" range
Blood pressure is fine
Proteins are super
I've gained a total of 17lbs!!!
Baby's heartbeat is beating well :) :) :)
The Dr. was very kind, enthusiastic and respectful of our birthing wishes :)
(I hope that she is the one "on call" when our time has arrived)

Where are the baby photos???? Well, all we could get this visit, because this sweet baby is head down, face towards my spine, with his sweet shy arm crossing over his face - is a photo showing a blurry fuzz of fuzz. They were able to get another boy bits shot - but, I shall respectfully decline to post it here on behalf of the modest baby. We're in every week now for the visuals (because of the size and stomach concerns), so hopefully we'll have something to post next week ...

I wish you all well out there - and will see some of you this weekend :) xoxoxo *SherryQ*

oh yes - a sweet little sheep from the MD sheep and wool festival last weekend ...

Not for All to Read ...

And by this I mean that if you are delicate of nature (or believe that I am), then please stop NOW, because especially if you think that I am delicate of nature, I would like to maintain that image with you for as long as I am able to ...

For the rest of you here is what is, unfortunately, on my mind... there are two, they are big, rounded, hanging, sweaty, and on my mind constantly. The only term I can use to describe them are, "breasticles." Okay, so I'm missing one factor - the hair, but otherwise, seriously - anyone disagree? Who knew that I had the ability to grow even larger? I'm just sayin'. They are having a life of their own - and are making me tired. I relay this not as a complaint (the sweet baby is puddle jumping today) but rather as an obeservation and attempt to add to general vocabulary.

More later on the Sheep and Wool festival and a shopping trip to TJMaxx ... ttyl *SherryQ* xoxo

Last Friday

Hola All :)

My sister-in-law, Sydney, is hostessing a shower for me!!! How fun :) Thank you, Sydney!

If you did not receive an e-vite, just post here and join us!

In other news - we continue to do well - as far as we know. The glucose test results have not been revealed to me just yet, so I am hoping for the best...

me as of last Friday (and I'm NOT in black!)

Can you see? Can you tell that my belly is trying SO hard to grow and grow and grow? Grow, grow, grow sweet baby! I am still feeling rolling acrobatics, a few puddly kicks, and soft punchy hiccups... so I assume that all is well ...

In ridiculous news - I am trying to finish an adult novel (as in books for grown folks - not "adult" adult - although ...). I hate to admit the title - it is truly silliness. But, it is a THICK book, and as I bid adieu to my life as not a mommy, I feel like I want to complete reading this stupid series I started years ago. It is good to have goals - eh? Oh yes, and I am FINALLY reading Nasty Bits - I adore him!!! No worries - I'll soon be back to the children's books :)

Unrelated to that - our lilac bush is blooming :)

The end of my sleepy, hormonal, and disjointed post... Octavio, his friend, Tom, and my brother, Corey, have been working on finishing the bookshelves for our sweet baby :) I'll take pictures and post asap :)

Stupid Glucose

We received the news today that I'll have to go back in for the stupid three hour glucose tolerance test. Stupid Glucose. Stupid, stupid, dumb head glucose, dummy dumb dumb, stupid.

I feel better now :)

The image “http://www.eduwebs.org/bugs/bumble_bee.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

These are the things happening in my yard today ... The berry bushes are preparing to burst out sweet little tasty red berries, the giant bumble bees are dancing about, making everything fertile, and the lilac bush has just begun to open up... yum!

Confession - I am not clever enough to photograph giant bumble bees. I tried stalking them for about 30 minutes, and all they did was protest wherever I wandered and buzz dive my head. So I borrowed this one from an educational website.

Happy Spring! ttfn *SherryQ*

Two-Three more weeks!

Me today...
I tend to go a little monochromatic, since the aversion to giant swirly circles, pastel stripes, or, "Somethin's Cookin'," shirts is something I am unable to overcome.

This morning we visited with Dr. Broth - and he proclaimed that the news is the best we could have expected! So I've been given a 2-3 week reprieve on concluding my full-time Children's Dept. Supervisor position at my cute little library!!!

The baby is growing (still measuring quite small, but growing) :)

We both continue to be healthy (still waiting for the glucose test results) :)

We must continue with the proteins and shakes and avoid unnecessary activities :|

Our goal now is to make it to at least 37 weeks (we are at 29) ! :)

Wahooooooey :)

About the photos ... the baby is not only small, but slightly shy and polite. No kicking or bumping at the Dr. or little student stenographer** this sweet baby just slowly glides away from them with a nod of, "no, thank you," and proceeds on his merry way to an undisclosed location.

End result = another arrowed photo with confirmation that he is indeed a boy (what is it with the fixation and giant white arrow???!?), and one bottom of the foot shot - sorry! Hopefully we'll have something better next time.

In the meantime, please enjoy these happy photos:

Octavio chooses clothes for the baby (and so did Abuela!)

** no one has corrected me here! She is a Sonographer - leaving the stenographer-ing to Stenographer Fred - does anyone remember stenographer Fred from Science Court/ Squigglevision? I can only find Dr. Katz Squigglevisions on YouTube - where is my beloved Science Court?!!?

The Regular Grind

Today we visited the regular OB/GYN and saw CRNP Mossberg :)

My blood pressure = great!

Baby's heartbeat = great!

Measurements (external) = great!

Weight gain = great! I have gained a total of 7 lbs!!!!!
Ensure and protein, Ensure and protein ...

Giant Fibroid = still giant (ugh!)

Next week is when we will be visiting the specialist who will camera the baby all up and talk about r-e-s-t ... I'll keep you posted!

To work or not to work, that is the question

that I answered :)

Octavio and I decided that I will not be returning to my full time position at my cute library - scary but, yeah!

Happy flowers :)

Once we went through the expense of work full-time (day care, eating out for lunch and dinner and other food costs since this will be done on the run, cleaning help, the anti-anxiety therapy bills I anticipate accruing from the stress of leaving the baby, along with regular massages etc.), it turns out I would be using some of his salary just to stay employed (an indication of how much a Master-degreed librarian makes, or the cost of my own craziness - eh?).

My plan was to work until I delivered - but (see previous posts), it looks like this growing baby and the Dr. might have other ideas. We have an appt. Wednesday morning with the regular OB/GYN and then the specialist on April 16th - and hope to know more then.

In the meantime:
YES, I am still wearing my pants with a bella band, but am eating everything that I am supposed to be eating (including the old folkey Ensures).
YES, I seriously registered for a million outfits for the sweet baby.
YES, I am obviously open to registry feedback (please).
YES, I continue to mostly feel well - the swelling that started with the October issues (hello fibroid!) are beginning to make their presence known, so some lower abdomen and lower back pain have settled in for the haul (I laugh in their faces - until I am begging for meds)

Well wishes to all :)

Proteins Galore :)

Just a quick note to share that I have been eating between 86-110 grams of protein each day!

This is how I feel about that:
Chicken, pork, eggs, nuts, cottage cheese, yogurt, quinoa, tembleque, and, of course, 2 Ensures each day - woo hoo!

Hope all is well out there with you all!

Baby gets ...

....... a bunch of stuff from Hanna Andersson and Old Navy!

I admit - I panicked - I'm not embarrassed. Well, maybe that's because the orders didn't arrive yet (eeks!).

I was all, "what if the baby does come, like, in April,"
he was all, "don't worry, we'll just go and get some stuff,"
and I was all, "but you're drugged up from your surgery, and feelin' no pain,"
and he was all, "you're right!" with a big smile
... And so, the easy pleasey Internet called out to me, and I went a little mad at the smoothness of its charm, keeping the noted red, "sale," as my only guide.

I'm sure you can picture how this story is going to end. And, so can the UPS man. To whom I apologize in advance for not limiting myself to one store, one order, since you have to climb a giant hill to make my deliveries - if you've seen the driveway, you can imagine that the UPS man now actually prefers to walk up the hill rather than drive to the front door...

poor UPS man!

What about diapers? Bathtubs? Nail set? Balms? Creams? Bouncy seat? Assorted baby accoutrement? Pshaw! This baby will be stylin' - at least for a week or two, and after that - well, I guess I'm hoping that sweet naked (undiapered, unbathed, unbalmed...) babies are cute to some :)

ttfn *SherryQ*

btw Octavio's recovery continues to go well, and the surgical pathology report confirms the largest tumor was benign!!!!!!!!!!! :) W H E W But, without the narcotics, I am now on a "no more baby orders until after a shower or your mother visits" diet. I don't mind, really - I'd rather have my healthy, healing Octavio :)

And then there was drama ...

Greetings, Anonymous Reader!

Many of you have heard by now that Octavio's surgery went well on Thursday to remove a growing tumor from the left side of his neck, and we were all home by about 4 p.m. The surgeon continues to be 90% confident that the tumor is benign, and will confirm this with the pathology report. Poor sweet Octavio has to sit around at home until we go for his post-op visit on Monday, with a big bandage and tape etc. wrapped all around his head - think "deranged nun" look - but, he is handling it well and not in much discomfort. Before the surgery, Octavio had the most fun talking about his "toomah" ala a certain CA Govahnaytah, and that he would be like "Scarface" after the surgery. Yuck. What's wrong with boys?

Tio and Tana this past September... before the drama begins ...

We did have a baby appointment on Wednesday, with the perinatal specialists (we go to a regular OB/GYN as well), and received some concerning news - not tragic, just concerning. The baby's head and stomach are measuring small - small enough that we are at a low threshold for concern, and have to call the moment we feel anything might be unusual (whatever that means), and we'll have only 2 weeks in between appts (3 for the specialist).

BabyQ

The Dr. did say that this could mean a number of things, but to be on the safe side, I have to dramatically increase my caloric intake (I've only gained 3 pounds and am at 27 weeks) with a focus on proteins, cease all unnecessary activities, and let my work know that there is potential that I will be on bedrest, or they will have to deliver the baby after the April 10th or April 16th appts.

A self portrait from today ...

So, we ordered the car seat and crazy expensive stroller (we might return that since it was ordered under emotional distress) yesterday - and will begin actual baby purchasing (you know, diapers, clothes, and like stuff for babies other than books and shelves...).

http://quinnybaby.com/prodimages/large/ZM17429_zm1_black.jpghttp://quinnybaby.com/prodimages/large/ZM17520_zm1_penguin.jpg

I feel well - and full - with a kicking baby - and growing, and haven't been more than slightly concerned about the lack of weight gain, since I started out with extra weight on me, and I know plenty of similar women that actually lost weight or stayed the same weight for their pregnancies. But, the measurements are what they are, and I'll be doing my best to follow the Dr.'s instructions. He did also say that this could be a genetic issue, in which case increasing proteins and lessening activities won't make a difference, but it won't hurt to try whatever we can to have a healthy baby.

There's a possibility that the baby is just going to measure small too - but since it hasn't been measuring small until this last appt, we won't know that until we go back. Octavio's solution is for me to eat hot dogs and red meat every hour on the hour ... yeah, that's not going to happen ... but, I am on 2 Ensures each day, and am keeping better track of my intake (especially proteins). Since I'm a gluten/dairy free eater with an aversion to red meat - my diet hasn't been that bad - just not as high in proteins as it could be.

Having my mother-in-law here has been nice and comforting - yesterday at the hospital and today cooking up a storm (yum!) - tembleque, pork empanadas (yes, I eat pork - yum), lentils ... yeah for moms!

***empanadas* * * * * *lentils* * * * * *tembleque***
Tembleque - 2nd helping

We'll keep you posted on the mysterious BabyQ :)

Sweet Puffins

Sweet Puffins? Sweet Puffins?

A few of you called and asked, stopped and asked, and now I see a post - so, I'll post here with the answer to, "what in the world is a sweet puffin?"

A sweet puffin is, that, well, exactly that - a sweet puffin! Years ago I became enchanted with a funny bird with sweet and fancy eyes, called a puffin. I thought that I needed to see a puffin in its natural spot (which I haven't), display a folksie decoy of a puffin (which I have) and talk and dream about puffins as often as I could (guilty!).

"Puffin," as it turns out, is one of the MOST fun words to say :) So, when my brother and sister-in-law had their first baby, Tana (also with sweet and fancy eyes), I started calling her, "sweet baby puffin," and she loved it!

Tana is now a preschooler and toodles around her own sweet baby puffin (a stuffed puffin from her trip to Florida) in her baby stroller. And all babies are now baby puffins, and we like it that way :)

The end of the current evolution of Sweet Puffins and how they came to be. I hope that you enjoy saying it - enjoy using it, and enjoy all of the Sweet Puffins in your life :) We are so excited to meet the Sweet Baby Puffin that we're trying to grow here!

More posts to come ...

View of the Room

The Amby arrived yesterday!!! Today we are waiting for the shelves to be delivered :)

Before we begin making physical changes to prepare for BabyQ, here is what the room looks like today:

No worries, we are well aware that my Grandmother's case and random lamp are not needed here - and that the light hinty yellow is not a gender neutral color. With the shelves that are coming, and addition of cornice boards (think chocolate!), you'll hardly notice the walls... yes?

I suppose that indeed we have already made changes. There's the mobile from Corey, Sydney and sweet Tana :) The room used to be bright blue with matching bright blue carpet and, what can only be described as, awesome (read, "hideous") sports border and baseball themed ceiling fan - YIKES! Octavio is the most dedicated baseball fan in the universe, and even he couldn't stand it.

So now the room is a tranquil Winter Wheat color with bamboo floors - waiting for baby-ish-ness stuff to fill it up. I'm thinkin' a lovely sheepskin for the floor and a giant clock ...

We'll post more photos as the room grows :)

And the truth shall set ye (me? you?) free ...

So - here's what happened, for you curious-ers...

Octavio and I have been trying to get pregnant for about 6 years. We tried a number of options, that ended in a desperate "final attempt" (whatever that means) going through IVF this past Fall that resulted in this pregnancy - due June 29th or July 2nd depending on who is answering that question :)

For more information on IVF, and other fertility treatments, visit RESOLVE - my very dear and long time friend pointed me there - and this site was a lifeline for us! Thank you, MS :) xo

We did begin the pregnancy a little shaky when I had a severe reaction to some medications, that, once it started, was difficult to control (insert unpleasant procedures here) until the hormones balanced themselves out by around January - well, as balanced as they can be with being pregnant. During this time, we were unable to maintain the twin pregnancy - but this one seems to be plugging along well at this point :) We'll be back at the specialist this Wednesday for an update - these photos are from the 2.13.08 visit.

For those of you that knew - thank you for your tireless support! For those of you that guessed - thank you for letting us stay private! For those of you that didn't know at all - thank you for believing in miracles!

And now, for the promised giggle photo ... :)

ttfn! *SherryQ*

ps. We are not registered anywhere - but I suppose we should be soon. We do have a list of wants, needs and dreams of that we will post soon :)

We ordered something (finally!)

Many of you are already aware that our major preparing for baby purchases so far have included a puppet, books, and a mobile - AND we received a beautiful mobile from Corey, Sydney and sweet Tana! Suddenly the word, "prioritize," is becoming more real as I begin to grow out of my regular pants (and unders).
So, and, so ... we ordered some shelves for THE room from Ikea, and our Amby! We'll start taking room photos once these arrive, and will post - no worries. BTW, we cannot locate our scanner, otherwise we'd post the cute little sonograms with the identifying organ showing that we are indeed having a sweet boy :) Once we find the scanner - photos will follow.

Thank you for visiting, and thank you for your patience. *SherryQ*

You have heard ... possibly

Possibly, maybe, supposin' you have heard that we are expecting a sweet puffin at the end of June - beginning of July! Very exciting - no?
Come to think of it - people seem to ask that a lot, "You're pregnant? Wow - are you excited?" Pardon me, but wtf? Uhhh - am I supposed to say something in response that is socially acceptable - I don't think so! But, of course, all of those fun responses stay tucked neatly inside, while I actually respond, "Why, yes, kind person, we are excited," oh, yes, and I smile too - a kindly smile at that.
Of course, dryness to the wind, we are thrilled - we have been waiting a long time, and have had some unfortunate struggles to reach this point - which makes it almost surreal to know that we are actually moving forward (and moving well, tg) with the entire process.
So, we'll use this blog to post tidbits, news, and the sweet baby's wants/needs/desires - no worries, we will translate the popcorn inside-of-the-belly taps and kicks into English for you :)
I'll wrap up here with an apology to anyone that I mocked in the paragraph above - I know that sometimes it is difficult to know what to say, and I should be more patient and show a better appreciation and gratitude for what are ultimately good wishes - I'm trying, mostly :) ttfn

Welcome!

A new phase of life calls for a new blog ... okay, so this template is the same as the other blog, but, like, there are green polka dots, and green polka dots are where'sat.
